Most memorable moment or accomplishment at Wilmot Union High School: Music and debate were among my favorite memories while at Wilmot Union High School. Both were challenging, requiring hours of preparation. Both activities instilled a sense of pride and accomplishment upon the completion of an event. I also learned to appreciate physical fitness and still enjoy playing tennis.

Notable memory: Going to school on Monday, December 8th, 1941 and hearing President Roosevelt say "Yesterday, December 7, 1941 - a date which will live on in infamy-" on the school radio. Many predicted the war would be over in a week or two. Never in my wildest dreams did I think 15 year old Ray Stoxen would later be in a foxhole on a hill on the Island of Luzon, with a 30 cal. machine gun, or in Japan in the Army of Occupation, four years later. It forced me to become a mature and responsible adult. I am proud to have served my country and my community.

This small change in wording created strong feelings in the community. We were featured in the Westosha News and billed as rabble rousers.

I will never forget the feeling of walking into that room – the feeling of unity. It was amazing! We were a fairly small class and all knew each other for the most part, but that day was special because we felt like a family. The whole year was like that too. Every moment was special. I think in a school like Wilmot, in a smaller community, you do become family. It is something that is part of you forever.”

“My fondest memory from my WUHS years has to be the honor of being selected to speak at our graduation ceremonies in 1966. Then, 56 years later, to be nominated by some of my same classmates to be considered for this honor as their lifetime Hall of Fame representative. The teachers, friends, skills and values given me in those long-ago, formative years are priceless life gifts I was given. They were truly the foundation for my most wonderful and interesting life."
