Summer Basketball Camp for 4-9 Grade

The Wilmot High school boys basketball program is hosting a youth camp for 4-9 graders Monday through Thursday, June 17 – 20. Campers in fourth through sixth-grade will meet from 1 to 3 p.m., followed by seventh- to ninth-graders from 3 to 5 p.m. The cost is $50, and families who have more than one camper will receive a $10 discount for each additional participant. Each camper also will receive a t-shirt.

The camp, which will be run by the high school coaching staff, will focus on the fundamentals of the game through a number of drills. Campers also will have a chance to participate in daily competitions.

Fourth Annual Relay for Life, Friday

Wilmot’s 4th annual Relay for Life is being held this Friday, May 17th at 6:00pm. This American Cancer Society sponsored event focuses on celebrating the people who survived cancer, remembering those who lost the battle against cancer and fighting back against the disease so that it can not claim the life of anyone else. For the staff and students participating in this event, please remember that this event is going on rain or shine and that proper outdoor wear is greatly recommended. We have 12 hours of planned activities ranging from music, games, school band performances, and other fun things that will be sure to keep everyone awake and will be a night you won’t forget.

Academic Decathletes place 3rd in national online competition

Congratulations to the Wilmot Academic Decathletes for placing 3rd in the 2013 Medium School National Online Competition! Campolindo HS of California placed first (30,402; just west of Cal Berkley), NW PA Collegiate Academy 2nd (28,769), Wilmot 3rd (27,663), and Kingman Academy of Learning (AZ 25,538) finished 4th. Wilmot will receive a banner commemorating this wonderful team achievement.

Individual decathletes also performed very well compiling 20 medals and $1,250 in scholarship money.

Carter Dybing placed first overall in the Varsity Division posting 4,817 points, earning him a gold medal and a $750 direct scholarship. Carter nabbed gold medals in Music, Art, and Language & Literature, silver in Science, Social Science, and Economics, and a bronze medal for his Essay.

Savannah Rivers placed third overall in the Varsity Division posting 4,230 points, earning her a bronze medal and a $250 direct scholarship. Savannah took the gold medal in Language & Literature, the silver in Music, and bronzes in Art and Social Science.

Katie O’Brien posted the highest score of anyone on the Wilmot team. Her team leading 5,480 points earned her a $250 direct scholarship. Katie won the gold medal in the Honors Division for Music, and added silver in Economics and Art.

Austin Johnson placed fist in Math in the Varsity Division, earning him a gold medal. Austin also won bronzes in Economics and Music.

Lauren McCluskey placed second in Art in the Honors Division good for the silver.

This is the first time Wilmot decathletes have advanced to compete at the national level. They went into the competition ranked 5th but bumped two schools to get into the top 3. They not only did Wilmot proud, they did Wisconsin proud!

Another successful Spring Fling

The Wilmot Student Council hosted another fun Spring Fling this past weekend. Spring Fling is a prom for students with disabilities. Students from several area schools were invited. There were about 100 students who attended with their guests. It’s a very special event that the Student Council students enjoy hosting. A few alumni even came to help out again.
