Jay getting ready to take the shot
As everyone knows basketball season has started for both boys and girls. On Friday, December 11th the varsity boys basketball team went against the Burlington Demons in a heated game. The ending score was 58-50 Burlington but Wilmot put in a fight. Wilmot was in the lead most of the game but just couldn’t hold on in the last remaining minutes in the fourth quarter. Grant Dull scored the highest for Wilmot with 17 points and Landon Tenhagen following with 10 points. The varsity team is currently 1-5 and is playing Delevan-Darien this Thursday at Wilmot. Delevan is 2-2 and is coming from a loss to Elkhorn. Hope to see everyone there cheering on the team.
Wilmot’s playoff goal for football ended on Friday with an intense game against the Burlington Demons at their field. Burlington struck early with a long run to score the first touchdown of the game but missing the field goal putting them up 6-0. Wilmot tried to answer back but could only score two field goals and headed into the second half down thirteen points.

Wilmot trying to score on Burlington’s defense
In the third quarter Wilmot struggled to come back into the game with a lost fumble on the Burlington 10 yard line. In the fourth quarter Dave Lunetta ran a kick return back for a touchdown and Chris Nelson threw to Corey Cates to scored a two-point conversion to put the Panthers back into the game, but Wilmot couldn’t make it a one possession game after Steve Sevey caught a touchdown pass with a little more than a minute in the game. Chris Nelson threw 17 of 31 with 246 yards. Even though we can’t get into the playoffs, we still want to finish with a win with
our last game against Central on Wednesday October 21. Good luck.

Everyone knows in high school how big the football team is to their school with intense rivalries and each school trying to have the best record of the conference. Last friday Wilmot High School headed over to the undefeated Waterford High School to try and give them their first loss. Wilmot was able to hold Waterford to 7 points but losing 7-0. Coach Greinke said we had a great game considering the conditions. It had rained previously and Waterford is ranked 10 in Divsion 2 football. We held Waterford to about 220 yards. Overall Coach Greinke said he was proud of the defense for being on the field for probably well over three quarters. On offense we had -44 yards rushing and 15 passing yards with only two first downs. With Waterford being 4-0 in conference and 6-0 overall we should be able to contend with any team says Coach Greinke. This week is the homecoming game for us and we all want a win against Delevan who is 3-3 overall with a tremendous passing game. Coach Greinke said that “we have a few ideas in mind that will hopefully shut it down or contain it. Our offense will look to get back on track and move the ball more consistently. If we can get both sides of the ball to be consistent this week, good things should happen.” This homecoming game will be very important for Wilmot’s chances to get into the playoffs. Go Panthers!
