Mitch Marks, Robb Evans, Many Aug, and Cara Dowel

Congratulations to Wilmot Investment and Finance Bowl winners Mitch Marks, Robb Evans, Many Aug, and Cara Dowell.  They brought home the trophy for the second year in a row!  These financial gurus will be headed to the state competition in May.  The other Wilmot competitors had strong showings and played well.

For many years, Valve Software has been working on it’s digital distribution program called Steam. Steam is essentially an app store for games but for actual legitimate games, like Half-Life and Call of Duty. Steam has been a Windows exclusive program for all of its lifetime, as have all of Valve’s games.

Yesterday, Valve sent out teaser images that not-so-subtly hinted that Valve was indeed releasing Steam to Mac users. What does this mean for Mac? While not all companies will be forced to make Mac versions of their games, those who want to may choose to. Games released only on Windows will still only work for Windows. Also, games that require more processing power to run, for example Crysis, if they were to be released on Mac, would have to be run at lower settings. This is because Macs cannot be upgraded without buying new units, unlike PC. Most likely, Valve will port their games to work natively on Macs and not use conversion or emulation. None of this is 100% confirmed s of yet, but GDC (Game Developers Conference) is next week and Valve has already show that they have big plans to announce. (Search “Portal ARG” on Google to find out what else is happening with Valve.)

Well, I know I’ll be keeping my eye on this and see if there is any validity to it, but it looks to be clear-cut almost confirmation of what is to come.
