A team from Wilmot won the 1st Annual State Finance and Investment Challenge Bowl this past Tuesday held at the UW-Madison campus. Wilmot competed against eight other schools in a single-elimination tournament who had advanced from their respective regional competitions held earlier in the school year. (Wilmot won and advanced from the Milwaukee Regional)
The Wilmot team was comprised of seniors Robb Evans and Mitch Marks and juniors Cara Dowell and Mandy Aug. Robb Evans, team captain, dominated the competition with his rapid reflexes and his mastery of Financial Literacy and Economics. Mitch Marks also heavily contributed to the team’s victory. Coach Don Serkowski was elated that not only did the team win the championship, but that Evans ended his stellar extra-curricular academic career as a state champion. “Robb has been the most decorated champion in our school’s well accomplished competitive history, the title of state champion is well deserved.” Serkowski also hopes that the example of this team inspires future Wilmot students to not only become more financially savvy, but also to study rigorously over the course of the next year in preparation to defend the championship. “Whoever these students are, they have enormous shoes to fill,” commented Serkowski.
The Panthers first defeated Madison West in the 1st round and went on to beat D.C. Everest to advance to the championship match. The Wilmot students then faced a team from Milwaukee Pius XI which they beat by a score of 175-155 in the 30-question lightning round.
For their efforts the team took home the hefty, newly minted traveling trophy, and each team member received a 1st place plaque and $50.00 cash.
The event was spearheaded by the efforts of Asset Builders of America, Inc. who have dedicated themselves to furthering financial and economic education throughout the state of Wisconsin. After seven years of organizing separate regional competitions around the state, Asset Builders was able to bring everyone together for the first ever state championship. The students from Wilmot want to thank all volunteers involved for the opportunity to compete in such an enjoyable and meaningful competition.

The Wilmot junior varsity softball team was hyped up and ready to go on Thursday’s game vs. the Elkhorn Elks. They showed that they were ready to play and REALLY showed team effort! The girls played smart and tough on defense and on offence. They finished the game with a score of 22-2 Panthers in five innings. The girls scored eight runs in the second and fourth innings and another six in the third. The Panthers were lead by Caitlyn Haag with a three run home run and a double, also by Chloe Epping who went four for five with four RBIs. Every player did their part in this GREAT victory over Elkhorn. The girls will be playing their last home game vs. their tough rivals, the Central Falcons at 4:30 on Tuesday. Come and cheer on the Wilmot Panthers Softball team for their last home game of the season. Great Job Girls On Your Win!
Last night Caitlyn Haag hit a 4 run home run to add to the victory against Elkhorn. The final score was 22-2. It was a team effort to add to this win. The panthers have their next game on Tuesday against their rivals, Westosha Central at come. Come cheer them on at 4:00!

Caitlyn Haag on the field, Congratulations on your Second Home Run!
Q: How did it feel when you hit your tee shot?
Hole in one man: It felt great, i did not think it was a hole in one though.
Q: When did you find the ball?
HIOM: When I walked up to the green and did not see my ball on the green. I thought it went over the green and then i looked in the hole and it was right there.
Q: How excited were you when you realized you just hit your first hole in one?
HIOM: I was very excited because there are golfers that are better than me that have never hit one so im happy knowing that i have hit one.
Q: What hole did you hit your hole in one on?
HIOM: It was on the 9th hole which is a 160 yard par 3 that goes uphill so i didnt even get to see the ball go in. I found it in the hole when it wasnt on the green.
