Hi Mr. Kopp,
As a parent of the WUHS School District, my son, Brandon, has benefited from the opportunity to take Driver’s Education at the school during the school day. This has allowed him to receive his Driver’s Education and juggle all his extra-curricular activities and academic studies.
My daughter, Justine, will be a Driver’s Education candidate in 2012-2013 school year. She, too, participates in extra-curricular activities. To make sure I understand your letter, she could take the online class and then do Behind the Wheel instruction during her normal school day (e.g. during Study Hall)?
Please confirm that I am understanding the letter correctly.
Thank you!
Mrs. Schattner

Mrs. Schattner,
Yes, your daughter could opt to take the on-line portion and work on it before, during, and/or after school. Behind the Wheel would then also be available before, during and/or after school.
Thank you for the question.
D. Kopp
Both of my children have opted to use a community-based drivers education company. They did this because they wanted their electives for things they wanted to choose. For the most part, the classroom times (6-8:30 M-R) did not conflict with their extra-curricular activities.
I always thought that what we paid was comparable in price to WUHS. However, I just read in your letter that students that use the district drivers education pay $360. It cost $300 for my 2010 alumni and $325 for my current sophomore student. This might be something you would include in your study of options. It might be that some of the students selected to go out to the community for this service because it was more cost effective!
Could you maybe look at contracting with the local drivers education companies to see if they could provide a more cost effective service within school hours? If using CESA 2 is going to cost even more than the current amount, you might lose even more students to the local companies.
